Careers Progamme Summary:
At Seven Hills School we build up our careers education over time through our curriculum. In phase 1, places of work and employers are recalled within the curriculum, without there being a distinct careers lesson. When students move into phase 2, careers education builds in emphasis, with our semi-formal and formal pathways having Work Related Learning lessons once a week. Once students enter phase 3, they have employability lessons twice a week across all pathways.
Work-related learning is an important part of young people’s education in order to prepare them for future careers and allowing them to develop the skills they need to make a positive contribution to our society.
For further details of the Careers curriculum across the school, please see the Curriculum page.
Progress against the Careers curriculum is measured by assessing targets using the school’s Individual Learning Priorities. In Post 16, students work towards the completion of relevant ASDAN Towards Independence or ASDAN Lifeskills Challenge units. We assess our Careers provision termly against the Gatsby Benchmarks using the Compass Plus online tracker.
Our Careers information gets reviewed annually.
Baker Clause Statement
As part of our school’s Careers education, students are given access to colleges, social care placements, supported internships, and apprenticeship providers to help them make an informed decision about their future provision after leaving Seven Hills School. We measure our Careers provision termly against the Gatsby Benchmarks using the Compass Plus online framework. Personal guidance delivered by SEND Careers Advisors is balanced and considers all future provisions in the local area.
Any provider is welcome to contact the school’s Careers Leader to discuss what they can provide to enhance our careers provision.
Any provider wishing to access or provide IAG to our students as part of our careers programme will be supported by our teaching staff throughout their visit and never left unattended. We will make available appropriate resources to support provider presentations, which will be discussed and agreed in advance to ensure material meets our quality assurances and security measures. Providers are welcome to leave copies of their prospectuses or course literature and we will distribute them to relevant students. We can promote and distribute details of careers and apprenticeship literature and vacancies to all relevant students and parents through direct Email, parent-mail or via letter.
